Is Jonah Goldberg troubled by BP's misinformation and media censorship? Is he troubled by the thousands of Gulf Coast fishermen who have lost their ability to provide for their families? Is he worried about the clean-up workers who are suffering health problems because they haven't been issued proper protective gear? Is he setting up an office pool to help his fellow Americans who have been impacted by the worst environmental disaster in U.S history? Is he upset that it's going to take years to clean up the Louisiana marshes? Is he anxious because there is a possibility the relief well might not stop the oil from gushing out even longer and doing even more damage?

Well not exactly. You see Jonah is a conservative and a Republican. He's not going gonna let those evil liberal fascists talk about all the carcinogens and toxins suffocating the locals to divert attention from the real threat:

After the Exxon Valdez spill, people from some very far-flung parts of the United States showed up with hat-in-hand to get "compensated." One Alaskan relative of mine told how he left a meeting in disgust when some Floridians came rattling their tin cups.

I have no desire to disparage anybody who's seeking legitimate compensation. But I have a very strong desire to disparage folks who are going to make some underserved coin from the Gulf spill.

Seriously! Jonah Goldberg is worried about all the Alaskans that are speeding down to Florida right now rattling their tin cups!

The Washington Post has an unintentionally funny article about the marketing aspects of empire. Even the military realizes the propaganda power of positive marketing: naming a war Operation Preemptive Invasion and Occupation doesn't sound as pleasing as Operation Glad Tidings of Benevolence. But sometimes even the marketing geniuses -who make the death and destruction of pointless war sound like a missionary trip- let the cat out of the bag.

For the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Pentagon's top brass settled on Operation Iraqi Freedom. But at least one administration official publicly called the assault Operation Iraqi Liberation, providing fodder for conspiracists and late-night comics.

"They're calling it 'Operation Iraqi Freedom,' " TV comic Jay Leno quipped at the time. "They were going to call it 'Operation Iraqi Liberation,' then they realized, uh-oh, that spells 'OIL.' "

In a related note, Charles Krauthhammer advocating perpetual war should be codenamed Operation Wheelchair Bound Warmonger. It sounds so much better than the Fox News All Stars.

Wealth Redistribution

Republican critics are constantly invoking the term "wealth redistribution" when discussing the profligate spending of President Obama and congressional Democrats. Whether it's the stimulus, health care reform, or the continuation of bailouts for behemoth corporate institutions, Republican critics do have a point: the government is seizing wealth from one group of citizens and distributing it to another.

Many Republicans have even broken with the President Bush's big government conservatism. All of this is to be applauded as a step in the right direction for the Republican party and movement conservatives.

However, while conservatives no longer regard the Bush-Cheney administration as fiscally responsible they are still revered as the apotheosis of national security conservatives.

Dick Cheney is still around and ridiculing Obama for being "weak on terror" and "wrong on national security". He's not nearly as interested in defending Bush's horrible track record on economic policy or fiscal conservatism as he is the War on Terror.

Dick didn't get a standing ovation at CPAC because of his small-government track record, he got it because he's a staunch defender of the War on Terror and he attacks Obama for being weak on national security issues.

Yet, there is a far more insidious form of wealth redistribution going on in America that the Republican base and the Tea Partiers are absolutely silent about: the redistribution of wealth that is Dick Cheney's War on Terror.

As Linda J. Bilmes and Joseph E. Stiglitz write in the Washington Post:

There is no such thing as a free lunch, and there is no such thing as a free war. The Iraq adventure has seriously weakened the U.S. economy, whose woes now go far beyond loose mortgage lending. You can't spend $3 trillion -- yes, $3 trillion -- on a failed war abroad and not feel the pain at home.

Costofwar.com - counting only approved funding for the wars and ignoring external costs - arrives at a figure of 7,332 dollars spent on Dick's wars per taxpayer. This doesn't even include Obama's recent Afghanistan surge.

So where is the Republican criticism of the massive wealth redistribution that is Dick Cheney's blessed War on Terror?

Our fear lobby is just as committed to ratcheting up the level of fear as they were under President Bush. They're just more committed under Obama.

Another attempted terrorist attack on the United States in coming months is "certain," the heads of major U.S intelligence agencies told a Senate committee Tuesday.

Al Qaeda remains the top security threat to the United States, but a growing cyber-security threat also must be addressed by the U.S. intelligence community, the heads of the CIA, the FBI and other agencies told the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Terrorism via keyboard! How convenient. We expand the definition of terrorism to computer hackers!

The hearing covered a range of security issues and became contentious, with Republicans on the committee arguing with Democratic counterparts and the intelligence chiefs on how the Obama administration has handled terrorism suspects such as the failed Christmas Day bomber of a U.S. airliner.

The Republicans politicising terror? That's their shtick.

Asked by committee chair Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California, of the likelihood of another attempted terror attack on the United States in the next three to six months, the officials agreed with Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair's initial answer of "certain."

Yes the terror is certain. How about we disband our Homeland Security Department since the terrorism is so certain?

While none of the intelligence chiefs, who included CIA Director Leon Panetta, FBI Director Robert Mueller and others, cited a specific pending threat, their testimony made clear that an evolving al Qaeda remains their top concern.

"My greatest concern, and what keeps me awake at night, is that al Qaeda and its terrorist allies and affiliates could very well attack the United States," Panetta said.

So there is no specific credible threat, yet we are supposed to believe an attack is certain? I also question Panetta's lack of sleep over al Qaeda. He looks well-slept to me. I doubt he's losing weight about it too.

Forget your fears of al Qaeda. The real fear mongers are those working for our government and defending us against imminent threats that are non-existent.

Love pointless war? Then you'll love Obama! Or so says our heroic Republican shills.

President Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize speech Thursday is drawing praise from some unlikely quarters – conservative Republicans – who likened Obama’s defense of “just wars” to the worldview of his predecessor, Republican George W. Bush.

It’s already being called the “Obama Doctrine” – a notion that foreign policy is a struggle of good and evil, that American exceptionalism has blunted the force of tyranny in the world, and that U.S. military can be a force for good and even harnessed to humanitarian ends.

Manichaeism as described by our beloved fake Christians, how predictable.

The remarks drew immediate praise from a host of conservatives, including former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

No surprise there. Warmongers tend to love war.

“I liked what he said," Palin told USA Today. "Of course, war is the last thing I believe any American wants to engage in, but it's necessary. We have to stop these terrorists."

War is the last thing Robert Kagan and Bill Kristol want. They don't devote every single column they write to pumping up non-threats and agitating for more wars do they?And this lady is the great white hope? Sending your sons and daughters (how emasculated have we become to send women into war?) to die for no reason is really conservative according to Buchanan brigade Sarah.

Gingrich told The Takeaway, a national morning drive show from WNYC and Public Radio International, “He clearly understood that he had been given the prize prematurely, but he used it as an occasion to remind people, first of all, as he said: that there is evil in the world."

Why didn't he bomb Newt Gingrich then?

“I think having a liberal president who goes to Oslo on behalf of a peace prize and reminds the committee that they would not be free, they wouldn't be able to have a peace prize, without having [the ability to use] force,” Gingrich said. “I thought in some ways it's a very historic speech.”

"Historic speech" - in justification of anti-Christian wars after telling America that Obama is ushering in communism from Newt Gingrich. We know what Republicans are really about now.

The context was striking. The president is enormously popular in Norway – a crowd of several thousand waited at his hotel chanting “Obama. Obama. Obama.” And “yes we can. Yes we can. yes we can.” Still, he spoke to the Nobel committee in a room packed with European dignitaries – including the Norwegian royal family — on a continent where skepticism of the U.S. mission in Afghanistan is strong. And despite the sentiments in the room, Obama defended the American war effort there and told the Europeans that their reflexive pacifism may be self defeating.

Whatever mistakes we have made, the plain fact is this: the United States of America has helped underwrite global security for more than six decades with the blood of our citizens and the strength of our arms,” Obama said. “The service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform has promoted peace and prosperity from Germany to Korea, and enabled democracy to take hold in places like the Balkans.”

Mr. Obama speaks the truth. But the "global security" has become so entrenched that we now wage war against fake terrorists. Why don't we bring our troops home President Obama? There are people freezing and starving and global security doesn't really register with them. They crave survival and could care less about Germany and Korea. We used to call these folks the Democrat base, but now the Democrat base is found in Hollywood, Oslo, New York, and Tel Aviv. What ever happened to the working man President Obama?

And Obama’s comments came just nine days after the president stood before cadets at West Point and told them that American values are “the moral source of America's authority,” as he ordered an additional 30,000 troops into Afghanistan. His decision to push for a surge also garnered Obama comparisons to Bush, who had done much the same thing in Iraq three years earlier. The Oslo speech, too, reminded some of Obama’s predecessor – with a twist.

Does George Bush or Michael Gerson write Obama's speeches?

“The irony is that George W. Bush could have delivered the very same speech. It was a truly an American president's message to the world,” said Bradley A. Blakeman, a Republican strategist and CEO of Kent Strategies LLC who worked in the Bush White House.

Okay, they do write Obama's speeches.

“Wow. what a shift of emphasis,” said Robert Kagan of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a former policy advisor to McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign. Kagan said. “I don't know what to say about an ‘Obama doctrine,’ because based on this speech, I think we are witnessing a substantial shift, back in the direction of a more muscular moralism, ala, Truman, Reagan.”

Robert Kagan, a man who never met a war he didn't like, spouting off about a muscular moralism. How fitting for a warmonger writing for an international endowment for peace.

I found Mitt Romney's nonsensical plan to revive our economy linked by several Republican hacks during my weekly trek into the infernal regions of Republican establishment quackery. Apparently, Newt Gingrich isn't the only Republican capable of formulating worthless ten point plans on nearly everything and having it swallowed as Gospel by the faux-conservative gasbags that dominate the Republican Party.

I then discovered that Bob Dole was still alive and taking insulubrious doses of American Exceptionalism sildenafil. He's now warning us about the existential threat posed by the possibility of a decentralized Bosnia. He even manages to throw in the timeless "indispesable nation" drivel and as a good Republican pontificates on the evils and dangers of multilaterialism.

Michael Goldfarb doesn't seem to care that the Afghan Army we are fighting side-by-side with are a bunch of raving lunatics; who, in-between firefights, indulge in their favorite hobby of getting doped up on opium and hashish. He even has the bad taste to compare the complete disorientation and recklessness of the Afghanis drug addiction with the British rum ration of World War I.

Another sophisticated writer at the same magazine opines that unless women in Afghanistan parade around the streets of Kabul in short-skirts it will "constitute moral and strategic failure."
Hopefully, Obama's surge in Afghanistan will allow this vital American interest to come to fruition and keep us safe from terrorists.

Another strident defender of America from the nefarious Islamofascists has a theory that one possible reason for America's declining crime rate is higher immigration. He concisely titles his wonderful prose "Higher Immigration, Lower Crime"! I also learned that "Daniel Griswold is director of the Center for Trade Policy Studies at the Cato Institute and author of the new book Mad About Trade: Why Main Street America Should Embrace Globalization." Not only is Danny kind enough to peddle a fantasy immigration policy, he also promulgates a fantasy economic system for the middle-class! I'm sure informing Main Street that they can have the leftover remnant of the economic pie-after immigrants and outsourcing- is a sure way to win them over!

Obama To End The War?

Finally, after weeks of wrestling with the decision, Obama has decided to send 30,000 more troops into Afghanistan. Apparently Obama’s idea of change consists of managing to be indecisive for several weeks and then ultimately make the decision to carry on a Bush-era hawkish foreign policy. What ever happened to the anti-war left who were up in arms about the wars? Are they no longer anti-war now? Or maybe it's their guy who is continuing and expanding them? Was it all just partisan hypocrisy?

Now, how exactly are we going to finance this endeavor? Apparently the war surtax proposed by House Democrats that would add an additional 1% to 3% income tax increase to American families making less than 150,000$ annually has been shot down by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi told CNN, "I think the war has to be paid for. That may be one option, but I don't think that has a good prospect."

Note that Pelosi hasn’t taken the surtax off the table nor has she enlightened us on what the other options are. I suppose the other options would include continuing to borrow and print money to finance our empire and accumulate more and more costly debt or the war surtax will end up being pushed through and continue to break the back of the American middle class. Either way, working Americans will end up getting bamboozled.

Republicans considering ideological purity test for candidates:

Ten members of the Republican National Committee are proposing a resolution demanding candidates embrace at least eight of 10 conservative principles if they hope to receive financial support and an official endorsement from the RNC. The "Proposed RNC Resolution on Reagan's Unity Principle for Support of Candidates," is designed to force candidates to prove that they support "conservative principles" while opposing "Obama's socialist agenda," according to The New York Times' Caucus blog. The proposal highlights the ongoing tug-of-war for the ideological soul of the Republican party, and has been met with skepticism both inside and outside of the party.

Here's the purity test:

(1) We support smaller government, smaller national debt, lower deficits and lower taxes by opposing bills like Obama's "stimulus" bill;

We support shrinking the debt by cutting taxes, spending more than the entire world on war armaments and by extirpating some nebulous "wasteful spending" and earmarks.

(2) We support market-based health care reform and oppose Obama-style government run healthcare;

We support a completely dysfunctional health care system where the number one cause of middle-class bankruptcy is medical debt. We'll continue this whole charade about magical "free-market solutions" brought to you by the free-market fairy.

(3) We support market-based energy reforms by opposing cap and trade legislation;

I'll give the Republicans this one. They do seem to oppose cap-and-trade.

(4) We support workers' right to secret ballot by opposing card check;

When did the Republican Party become the party of workers' rights?

(5) We support legal immigration and assimilation into American society by opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants;

We support taking in millions and millions of immigrants. They just have to be legal. Then, they can assimilate into America and vote for the Democrats as our party continues a futile pandering effort to attract minority voters.

(6) We support victory in Iraq and Afghanistan by supporting military-recommended troop surges;

We don't know what victory means and cannot define it, but we should never withdraw from pointless military adventures because it is a "sign of weakness." We should have listened to MacArthur in Korean and nuked the Chinese because it was "military recommended." By staying in Iraq and Afghanistan for 100 years, we will eliminate the national debt.

(7) We support containment of Iran and North Korea, particularly effective action to eliminate their nuclear weapons threat;

We continue to search out new markets to spread the gospel of freedom and democracy.

(8) We support retention of the Defense of Marriage Act;

We will continue to mobilize our base by pretending we care about their issues and do absolutely nothing to stop gay marriage, abortion, or anything else. Once we reclaim power, we will continue to pursue tax-cuts for the rich, raid the treasury, invade nations under false pretenses and push the agenda of our neoconservative and corporate backers.
(9) We support protecting the lives of vulnerable persons by opposing health care rationing and denial of health care and government funding of abortion; and

We continue to support insurance bureaucrats rationing health-care. We will continue to pretend to fight against abortion while our own insurance policy for the RNC covers elective abortion.
(10) We support the right to keep and bear arms by opposing government restrictions on gun ownership;

We believe in slowly eroding liberties, unlike the Democrats, who prefer quickly destroying liberties.

God bless the RNC. They sure do try.

The effects of climate change have driven women in communities in coastal areas in poor countries like the Philippines into dangerous work, and sometimes even the flesh trade, a United Nations official said.

Suneeta Mukherjee, country representative of the United Nations Food Population Fund (UNFPA), said women in the Philippines are the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change in the country.

Wait a second. If the carrying capacity has already been reached, then why all the fuss about rising HIV rates? Isn't the entire goal population control?

But as the sea’s resources are depleted due to overpopulation and overfishing, fishermen start losing their livelihood and women are forced to share the traditional role of the man in providing for the family.

Wait, I thought global warming and resource depletion was bad for women? Isn't the goal to empower women by destroying the traditional culture? Isn't empowering women a good thing? Now I'm confused.

Alacala, who also heads the Angelo King Center for Research and Environmental Management in Siliman University, said some women often pick out shellfish by the coastlines, which exposed to storm surges.

Women who can no longer endure this work often go out to find other jobs, while some are tempted to go into prostitution, Alcala added.

After reading Gordon's excellent piece, I stumbled across this news.

On a unanimous vote, the California Energy Commission on Wednesday required all new televisions up to 58 inches to be more energy efficient beginning in 2011. The requirement will be tougher in 2013, and only a quarter of all TVs on the market currently meet that standard.

Throughout the years, I've come to the realization that the most energy efficient and worthwhile way to use a television is to simply turn it off.

Then there's this little factoid:

More time spend watching TV means less time for other opportunities. According to Nielsen Media Research, the average American watches about 4 hours of TV each day (or 28 hours/week, or 2 months of nonstop TV-watching per year). In a 65-year life, that person will have spent 9 years glued to the TV.

A few evenings ago, I happened to be sitting beside the fireplace enjoying a glass of fine bourbon and a wonderful movie with the missus. That film was Ronald F. Maxwell's 1993 Civil War film, Gettysburg. Perhaps it is because to some extent I consider myself to be a neo-copperhead, that I found the following scene containing a speech given by Confederate General Lewis Armistead (played by actor Richard Jordan) in the moments prior to Pickett's Charge, to be most inspiring.

While I consider this to be an emotionally uplifting scene, at the same time I felt quite disheartened. The sense of pride in local culture displayed here has all but vanished in a contemporary America where most of the general public goes no further than cheering for their local university or professional sports teams. Is the ever continuing erosion of the Tenth Amendment and state sovereignty the culprit? Or is the open borders policy enacted by the United States government to blame? I am sure they both play a part, as does the epidemic of mass media addiction this country is currently suffering from. Would things be any different today if our government operated solely within constitutional limits? I would like to hope so, but honestly, I have no way of knowing. What I do know is this: we can all learn something from General Armistead and his band of rebel soldiers, that wherever you may be from, please turn off the television set once and a while, get to know your neighbors, cherish the time spent with friends and family, take pride in your local culture and heritage, and let all of the world know that you are here this day.

Many have been taught that the Progressive Era in American history was the time that the laborers fought, and won, against the evils of the Robber Barons. James Livingston argues in his monograph entitled “Origins of the Federal Reserve System: Money, Class, and Corporate Capitalism, 1890-1913,” that the labor movement lost the war against the capitalists, because many of the so called triumphs of labor during the progressive era only made big business stronger.

Livingston is able to successfully accomplish this task because he focuses on the struggles of the elite, when many modern historians focus on the struggles of the poor. The end result is a history of 1890-1913 that utilizes objective economic figures to explain the sociological norms, values, and mores of the elite during their struggle to transform the competitive entrepreneur capitalistic economic system to the current corporate capitalistic system that exists today.

Livingston’s thesis is that the rich were forced to modify the competitive economic system that the capitalist elite were forced to endure during the 1870-1880 period.

In order to verify this thesis, Livingston first examines the 1870’s from the perspective of the capitalists, with the help of many primary, and secondary documents including Senate testimonies, economic journals, and banker's magazines. The sources help to illuminate the progression towards the Federal Reserve. He states that the capitalist was not receiving the required profits that were needed to invest in new endeavors. This was due because of the extremely competitive atmosphere that resulted in falling prices and overproduction of commodities. To solve this problem, the elite businessmen of that time started to group together to form pools and trusts that would not only decrease competition, but would also enable them to share the secrets of the trade. The labor movement was appalled at these combinations, so they tried to eliminate them politically; and they were successful in bringing about the 1890 Sherman Antitrust Act. However, the legislation backfired on the laborers, because it largely eliminated competition; so many large individual companies that were involved in trusts became even larger corporations. With the rise of the corporations, the elite knew that they needed to change the current banking system, because there was not enough liquidity in the pre-Federal Reserve system to allow large corporations to fund projects during panics.

This proved to be a rather difficult task for the elite businessmen to accomplish because the politicians were largely against a private bank controlling the money supply of the United States. The bankers were forced to manipulate the politicians into believing that a new banking system was needed to ensure a healthy capitalistic society. After this vital task was complete, the Federal Reserve Act was enacted.

Next, we have Republican Congressman John Shadegg giving Rudy Guiliani a run for his money at baseless fear mongering and irrational paranoia.

"I saw the Mayor of New York said today, 'We're tough. We can do it,'" Shadegg said. "Well, Mayor, how are you going to feel when it's your daughter that's kidnapped at school by a terrorist? How are you going to feel when it's some clerk - some innocent clerk of the court - whose daughter or son is kidnapped? Or the jailer's little brother or little sister? This is political correctness run amok."

A DCCC spokesman then responds:

"In case there's any doubt of the Republican Party being taken over by the likes of Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Michele Bachmann and other Right Wing extremists, last night Republican Rep. John Shadegg actually suggested that Mayor Bloomberg's daughter will be kidnapped by a terrorist," DCCC spokesman Ryan Rudominer said in a statement.

The jingoism and paranoia of the Republican Party is truly the only thing they are "extremist" about. Well, maybe not, they seem quite extremist about erecting a police state and passing tax cuts for the rich while waging their Jihad for perpetual peace and attempting to turn the entire world into a giant consumerist utopia. There's really not much else they're off-the-walls bonkers about.

Finally, we have the insipid Carrie Prejean:

The former Miss California told Christianity Today that the Bible makes no judgment about boob jobs.

"I don't think there's anything wrong with getting breast implants as a Christian," she told the magazine. "I think it's a personal decision. I don't see anywhere in the Bible where it says you shouldn't get breast implants."

According to RadarOnline.com, Prejean has no less than eight sex tapes and 30 nude photos to her name, each showing the model performing solo sex acts.

The conservative movement now has among their most prominent social conservatives a breast-implanted, amateur pornographer who stars in her own movies and yet has continued to enjoy the support of the "conservative movement."

I wonder, besides threatening people with terrorist kidnappings, calling the mainstream media sexist, and of course producing sex-tapes, what has the conservative movement accomplished anyway?

Roger Alford's failed hit piece on Rand Paul confirms nearly every stereotype about the liberal media. In the end, Dr. Paul ends up looking pretty good. The Republican establishment ends up looking like the asinine, corrupt, jingoistic and petty party of synthetic opposition that it really is.

Republican leaders, including McConnell, have been largely mum about the race. McConnell did host a GOP fundraiser in Washington for Grayson in September. More than 20 Republican senators attended, but the campaign hasn't released the fundraising total.

This should tell you everything you need to know about the Repugnant Party. Twenty senators and the living abomination to conservatism Mitch McConnell (the Senate leader of the dimwitted Repugnant party) are openly rejecting and holding fundraisers for the moderate candidate.

Since Bunning bowed out, Paul's detractors have tried to paint him as an oddball and an extremist, but growing crowds are flocking to town hall meetings across Kentucky to hear his spiel about reining in government spending, stopping taxpayer bailouts of private companies and balancing the federal budget.

Dr. Paul doesn't favor the perpetual war for perpetual peace and a massive police state; thus according to his detractors he's an "oddball and an extremist." Notice Mr. Alford's choice of words here.

Paul says he opposes abortion without exception, not even in cases of rape, incest or the health of the expectant mother. He also opposes marriages between gay and lesbian couples. At the same time, he voices staunch opposition to government intruding in the private lives of citizens.

Mr. Alford, if someone is seeking an abortion they are not an "expectant mother." And after losing thirty-one straight referendums regarding homosexual marriage Mr. Alford has taken to the task of propagandizing the rest of us by terming homosexual marriage as "marriages between gay and lesbian couples." Then he throws out all the standards of objective journalism and throws in the completely unnecessary "At the same time, he voices staunch opposition to government intruding in the private lives of citizens."

Apparently, one cannot be opposed to an unconstitutional police state and also oppose such iniquity as abortion and homosexual marriage in the eyes of the unbiased Roger Alford. It's a miracle that our founders could craft a constitution recognizing the value of privacy without simultaneously recognizing homosexual marriage and the right to abortion.

I will further genuflect on Kennedy's other legislative accomplishments in further posts. I hope to touch on his tireless efforts in support of gun control, his staunch support of Israel, his gallant efforts to increase federal control of education, his brave fight against extremist and anti-women Supreme Court appointments like Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas, his opposition to the bigotry inherent in the Defense of Marriage Act and his personal struggle against the "special interests" who wanted the Cape Wind project built less than 5 miles from his home. Also, we cannot forget Senator Kennedy's deep Catholic Faith which helped frame his passionate support for a woman's right to choose.

The American Enterprise Institute's Peter Wallison has a nice piece in today's Washington Post. Wallison rightfully argues against treating ordinary Americans like idiots who can't decide for themselves what's good for them.

A niece piece? What does nice mean? Use proper English when pretending to be a Conservative. Nice means something, as all real Conservatives will admit. "He's a nice guy", "he was nice to me" "I'm a nice person". Last time I checked nice guys finish last. National Review really sucks for publishing such a moron. For example, the administration's plan would allow the educated and sophisticated elites to have access to whatever financial services they want but limit the range of products available to ordinary Americans

In the days following Michael's death, his father, Joe Jackson, held a press conference with none other than Al "The Riot King" Sharpton. Sharpton took center stage and babbled about the need to protect Jackson's legacy and focus on the "positive."

We've seen this before with O.J. Simpson. Every time a black man is exposed or publicly rebuked, so-called black leaders begin to stoke the flames of racial animosity.

In this case, celebrities like Jamie Foxx played the race card. Foxx said of Michael Jackson during a recent appearance at the BET Awards, "We want to celebrate this black man – he belongs to us – and we shared him."

What if when Elvis Presley died, a white person got on TV and said, "This white man – he belongs to us." See how ridiculous that sounds?

It was quite shocking and utterly asinine to see what passes for Black "leaders" attempting to protect the legacy of a black man who died his skin white, married white women, and had white children. Utterly bizarre.

I won't get into the child molestation charges too much, but they appear to be nothing more then extortion. You don't use sodium Amytal when pulling a kids tooth and take the testimony as legit. And Evan Chandler was by all accounts a greedy, manipulative, loser, who put his interests ahead of his child.

It was the best time of my life. How I wish I could go back to those times and how I wish the children in today’s America could experience those times. With our jingoist media and government continually bombarding us with propaganda regarding the threat of nuclear annihilation emanating from North Korea and Iran, it is important to remember one thing; our government is peerless in its employment of nuclear weapons against other nations.

Of the possibility of nuclear weapons falling into terrorist hands, the government-media nexus has warned us repeatedly. The leaked Department of Homeland Security report detailing the pernicious threat of homegrown right-wing extremists cannot be taken lightly.

The question to ask is: Given many of these reactionary extremists are returning Iraqi war veterans, most likely with contacts deeply entrenched inside the military, is our government is doing everything it can to ensure that our nuclear arsenal doesn't fall into the wrong hands?

Tragedy follows tragedy
"A woman who missed Air France Flight 447 is killed in a car accident."

This wasn't a tragedy! But the ignorance of people who use the word tragedy, as regularly as they smoke their cheap cigarettes, is.

As any student of the Ancient Greek literature can attest, the tragedy is a Greek invention where a protagonist suffers some sort of calamitous harm brought upon by his earlier actions, unaware he caused them. Read Euripides before writing for the AP or Reuters! Debasing the language this much is merely a sign of Western decadence and collapse.

HAVE I EVER wondered what a wonderful world it would be if only my fans could get together, talk about how great I am and fall in love over their joint love for me? Sure, but unlike Fox News commentator Sean Hannity, I haven't done anything about it. At Hannity.com, in addition to enjoying the book club (Newt Gingrich, Jeff Foxworthy), song club (Charlie Daniels Band, Martina McBride), photos (Hannity's Insanity in Phoenix) and comic books ("Liberality for All" is set in 2021 and has a bionic Hannity, G. Gordon Liddy, Oliver North and a man born on Sept. 11, 2001, fighting to save a U.S. controlled by the U.N., including Ambassador Osama bin Laden), visitors can log on to Hannidate.

Conservatives need late-night, out-of-town hookups just as much as liberals. They also, it seems, need some hot man-on-man action. If you pull down the menu on Hannidate, you can select "I am a male, seeking a male." This was surprising because not even eHarmony allows same-sex pairings. Stranger still for a Fox News commentator's site, you can select ZIP Codes in Beverly Hills, Provincetown and San Francisco.

Figuring this was an embarrassing oversight by the Hannity.com administrator who must have bought the dating service software from some liberal company, I immediately contacted Hannity, hoping he'd panic and cry and possibly use his bionic powers. But it turns out Hannity was well aware of the gay Hannidate feature and is fine with it. "Hannidate is open to everyone," he informed me. "Even lonely L.A. Times reporters." He may be soft on gays, but Hannity can still hit a lonely, empty-desked, downsizing liberal newspaper where it hurts.

I found 21 gay profiles, a full 11 of which I thought were real (though I'd like to believe that the guy called "Seeking Fellow Cowboy Fans," who wants to get "back to my favorite mountain" and needs "help herding sheep," is totally legit). I called Michael Burke, 31, a New York restaurant general manager "looking for a normal guy." A normal guy, that is, who thinks he can meet hot gay men on Sean Hannity's website. Burke, who found Barry Goldwater's "The Conscience of a Conservative" at the library when he was 12 and voted for President Bush twice, loves Broadway musicals, Michigan State football, swing bands, Civil War books and Margaret Thatcher.

"It would be neat if I found somebody that had similar interests," he said. A longtime Hannity listener, Burke said he heard about Hannidate on the radio and figured he'd check to see if there was a same-sex option. Hannity, it turns out, is against same-sex marriage but is pretty libertarian on gay relationships, often standing up to gay bashers on his show and putting gay former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey's book on his book club list. In fact, Burke said he's seen very little homophobia from Republicans who aren't Christian fundamentalists. And he points out that among all the presidential front-runners, Rudy Giuliani is the most gay friendly. Especially since he lost the comb-over.

"Because I'm gay and do favor legalization of gay marriage doesn't mean I feel a certain way about the war on terror or taxes," Burke said. He has no interest in being a one-issue voter in Democratic primaries or joining the Log Cabin Republicans, whom he finds too left-leaning. And, I'm guessing, kind of dorky. More important, he thinks a gay guy with Hannity's social values might be a better fit than the guys he meets at bars. "A lot of people are looking to party and have a fun time instead of looking for a relationship. Politics aside, I was looking for someone who is a little more conservative in his lifestyle."

After years of red versus blue, it's easy to forget how personal politics are. And that people are closer to the center than you might think, regardless of sexuality or ability to muffle Alan Colmes. I hope Burke finds the love of his life on Hannidate and that one day they can get married. Because I want to see a wedding with Broadway tunes and a Margaret Thatcher impersonator. I just hope Eddie Izzard's booking fees are reasonable.

Some readers have e-mailed asking why Neopaleocons and why on Blogspot. Without getting into too much detail, our first site choice was blogsforvictory.com. Unfortunately we just couldn't hack it there.

Their slogan is "Where Defeat is not an Option" and where everything from "Hope for terrorists" to an open letter to Obama "Yes, Mr. Obama. We Are, In Fact, A Judeo-Christian Nation" appear. Anyway, after weeks of painstaking research, we couldn't find any religion called Judeo-Christianity or houses of worship representing such a religion. Also, we didn't quite view the defeat of McCain in 2008 as the death of Western Civilization. So here we are. Sad to say, but we just couldn't hack it at such an intellectually high-brow site like Blogsforvictory.

Considering the complexities that one encounters when evaluating why a McDonalds runs so efficiently and a DMV is so dysfunctional, one must realize that there are severe constraints limiting one agency and very little constraints impeding on the other.
The DMV faces three main constraints when dealing with clients. First, it cannot use the earnings of the organization for employee compensation, for improvements, or for other needs of the organization. The monies collected are subject to a higher authority. Secondly, the factors of production cannot be allocated in accordance with the needs and preferences of the organizations administrators. The labor, budget, and means to accomplish the jobs are funded and tasked by a third party. Thirdly, the organization is serving goals not of its own choosing. The organizations charter and mission is set by the state government and elected officials with budgeting power, not by its own choosing and is not open for negotiation.
